A Pirate’s Life for We!
X marks August 2-6 as Grace’s 2009 Vacation Bible School! Ours is a pirate theme so dust off your eye patches and booty! Our main verse is Philippians 4:13, “I can do anything through Christ who strengthens me†and we’re going to learn to be heroes!
Lenten Sermon Series
In Sunday morning worship from March 8-April 5, our sermons will be about discernment. That’s a churchy word which simply (although its certainly rarely simple!) means trying to figure out what God’s will is for our lives. God would like to have some input on the choices we make – from what we eat (yep, God even says things about that), to the people we spend time with, to major life decisions (which house to buy, which college to attend,…
March Pastor’s Pen
Perhaps this will surprise you, but I like Lent. It certainly is a busier season for me due to extra services and the like, but I appreciate the time to reflect, to be disciplined, to seek God with renewed passion. I hope you will take a long, deep look at yourself during these next 40 days to see where God is encouraging you to do some weeding or growing. In Sunday services throughout Lent, our theme will be discernment. That’s…
Comparative Religions Class
Is Christianity Different Than Other Religions? Do all religions lead to the same God? What are the core tenants of certain religions? Come explore ten religious traditions Sundays, March 15-June 21, 9:15 AM in the Social Hall. Religions studied will include Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, the Latter Day Saints, the Jehovah’s Witness, the Amish, Scientology, New Age and Chinese influenced Asian religions.
Midweek Lenten Meals and Services
Wednesday night Lenten services begin next week (March 4). Evenings will start with a light supper, followed by a time of singing, prayer and a study of Lenten themes. Supper will begin at 6 PM and our service around 6:30 PM.
Women in Worship Sunday
For the last 2.5 years, having a woman in the pulpit has not been that unusual at Grace Church. Prior to that, however, it was by far the exception rather than the rule. Women are the backbone of our congregation and so for many years, we have celebrated the contributions of lay women in the congregation by having them lead the worship service. This year, we will celebrate Women in Worship Sunday on 1 February. Please join us to celebrate…
Bring on the soup
For the, I believe, 7th8th year now, Grace UCC is participating in the Souper Bowl of Caring on Super Bowl Sunday, 1 February. For the second year now, we’re competing with the other UCC churches in Fairfield County to see who can collect the most cans of soup (which will be given to Lutheran Social Services in early February to be distributed to those in need in Fairfield County). Each package of Ramen noodles (they seemed to especially like these…
Christmas Eve Services
Merry Christmas! Everyone is invited to join us as we celebrate Jesus’ birth Christmas Eve. There will be two services, one at 7 pm and the other at 11 pm. We hope to you’ll join us!
December Pastor’s Pen
As I write, the lyrics to a popular Christmas tune have begun running through my head. “It’s the most, wonderful time of the year. With the kids jingle belling and everyone telling you be of good cheer! It’s the most wonderful time of the year.†While the joy detailed in this song is normally how I feel at Christmastime, this year I’m having a little trouble “getting in the holiday spirit.†Christmas shopping is perhaps the main thing that’s frustrating…
Blood drives
For a couple of years now, we’ve hosted blood drives at the church a couple of times a year. The most recent one was this past Wednesday where we collected about 14 pints. We’ll probably be holding another one in April, we’ll try to remember to mention it here in time to put it on your schedules. Most persons over 17 years of age can give. Here are a couple of members you probably recognize doing their part. Thanx, folks.…
