Haiti Relief

Thanks to everyone who gave so generously in our recent offerings for Haiti. We collected $1500 which will be sent to Habitat for Humanity International. They will be providing temporary and new permanent structures to those devastated by this earthquake. Please continue to pray for the people of Haiti.

This Sunday morning, January 10, we will celebrate our annual service of remembrance remembering the members and friends of Grace Church who have gone to their eternal rest in the last year.  Please join us to celebrate their lives.

Christmas Eve Candlelight Service

I know this is a little late, but don’t forget to come out to our 11:00PM Christmas Eve service, a beautiful way to greet the arrival of Christmas Day.  I believe we are the only one in Lancaster anymore at 11:00PM.  And remember, “to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is the Messiah, the Lord.” (Luke 2:11, NRSV)  Merry Christmas!!

Celebrate Thanksgiving with Grace

This Sunday, November 22, 10:30 am, our youth will be leading a Thanksgiving worship service. Kelsey Jones will be preaching a sermon entitled, “Living Thanksgiving.” I’ve read it and it’s great! Hope you’ll join us!

Christians are Turkeys

Last Thanksgiving, while driving home to my parents, I heard a story on National Public Radio explaining why we call turkeys “turkeys.” After all, turkeys are indigenous to North America, so why are they named after a country in Eastern Europe? It seems it all began when turkeys were taken to England from the Americas in the 1500s. At this time, the English called anything foreign or alien “turkey,” regardless of its origin. Persian rugs were called “Turkish rugs.” Hungarian…

The 80th (approximately) Chicken Noodle Supper!

It’s November and you know what that means. It’s Chicken Noodle Supper time! Since at least 1926, we’ve been serving up delicious chicken noodles, divine cole slaw, taste-bud tingling mashed potatoes and sweet-tooth satisfying desserts on a Saturday in November. This year the date is Saturday, November 14, 4:30 – 7:30 pm. Although the prices have risen since 1926 (when just the chicken, noodles, slaw and potatoes cost 50 cents) at least we now include dessert for the low, low…

Blood drive again

It is that time again.  We’ll be having a blood drive on Wed, 28 Oct from 1-7PM.  Call Julie Walter at the church to schedule a time to donate.  We had a great turn out for the “emergency” drive the Red Cross asked us to have in late August, and we’re hoping for the same this time.

Jehovah’s Witnesses Sunday School Class

This coming Sunday, September 27, 9:15-10:15 am, the Adult Sunday School class will be studying the Jehovah’s Witnesses. Come learn about this religion so you can know what to say when they knock on your door!

September Pastor’s Pen

Let’s be honest: people can be annoying. Even those we deeply love can sometimes get on our nerves. In those moments, it’s so hard to be kind and gracious. But as Christians, we are to love at all times, even when the people in our lives are really grating. “We love because he first loved us” (1 John 4:19). Jesus loved us so much, he was willing to prove his love in his death. It is pretty clear people annoyed…

Rally Day!

Don’t forget, Rally Day (our fall kick-off) is THIS SUNDAY! At 9:15 am, a continental breakfast will be served, games and crafts will be available for kids and a parents’ meeting will be held. Rally Day activities will continue during the worship service at 10:30 am. Hope to see you there!
