Hurricane Harvey Response

Folks have been asking how we can help those in Texas who have been devastated by Hurricane Harvey. At this point in time, what is needed most is money, but soon there will also be a need for cleanup buckets. This page describes how the UCC at the national level is responding. If you wish to give money, you can give directly through this link, or write a check and on the memo line write “Hurricane Harvey” and we will…

VBS 2017

Here is the video that Kelsey Jones created from this year’s Vacation Bible School.

From the pastor…

Missional.. Transformational…. Accountable….. These are words that we are creeping into the daily language of churches. The words can mean many things, but for us, I believe they are leading us to be the church, the progressive open caring church for all of God’s children. They are about growth and change. They are about God’s transforming us to be the church that God is calling us to be. They are about the world that is changing so quickly that we…

Time to re-enroll in Kroger Community Rewards

It is that time of year again. The time when we need to re-enroll our Kroger Plus cards in the Community rewards program.  The Kroger Community Rewards program is a way to raise money simply by using your Kroger Plus card when you buy groceries.  100% of the money the church receives through this program goes back out to help those in need in our community.  In the past, the Christian Service board has given the money to Maywood Mission…

Speaking Christian – book study

For the next 3 Sundays, Tammy Townsend will be leading a study of the book Speaking Christian by Marcus Borg. We will be discussing Easter, the Death of Jesus, & other topics as well. We will be meeting at 9:30 in the parlor room for those weeks. There should still be a few copies available in the narthex.

We have many symbols that represent our lives, our faith,…

Spring Forward

If you don’t want to be that person who pulls into the parking lot as everyone else is leaving church Sunday morning, remember to set your clock ahead one hour before you go to bed on Saturday evening.

Lenten request

On 1 March, we begin Lent. According to Wikipedia, “The purpose of Lent is the preparation of the believer through prayer, doing penance, repentance of sins, almsgiving, atonement, and self-denial.” I’d like to suggest that for this Lent, we, as members of Grace United Church of Christ, take some time during this season of Lent to pray and to listen for that still small voice of the still speaking God, and what God is calling us to do and be…

Lent…. from the pastor

On March 1, Lent begins. Lent is a time of focusing on prayer, fasting, living simply and moving closer to God. We observe Lent for 40 days, excluding Sundays, beginning with Ash Wednesday, which is March 1. On March 1, at 7:00PM we will gather in a service of worship. We will be reminded of a Lenten discipline of fasting, praying, and giving. We will share in the Lord’s supper and remember that Jesus was tempted. Lent is a time…

Sing praises

My dear Grace UCC family, This morning as I was sitting at my desk, working on a bulletin, it was grey and dreary, actually it has been grey and rainy and dreary for a couple of day. I felt tired and blah and unsure… But all I had to do was look around, and I knew that God’s work was going on at Grace UCC. Food, dried goods, cans, etc has been coming into the grocery cart to celebrate “Souper”…
