Core Values: Part 0

When we began our pastoral search process, Pastor Dennis took the search committee through the book Moving Off the Map, by Thomas Bandy.  As part of this process, last September, one Sunday after church, the search committee led the congregation through a process to discern our core values.  This is the first step in a process that we anticipate will continue after we call a settled pastor with the articulation of a vision and a mission statement.  Over the next…

Where your support has gone

Some folks asked for this info from Sherry Clausing’s presentation last month.  The Grace Church Endowment has been very generous in supporting her many trips to El Salvador with Eye Care International over the last few years and the last slide of her presentation showed some of the many ways that your money has supported worthwhile projects that Sherry saw or became aware of while in El Salvador.  The include, but are not limited to, the following (in no particular…

May 2014 – Pastor’s Piece/Peace

Thanks to everyone who helped make Holy Week and the Easter Sunday Celebration a special time. We had a good attendance in the events and worship around Easter. The morning demonstrated the potential for Grace Church and her future. Already we have several things happening fast: On May 7 the Christian Service Board is supplying food for a special event with the students of West Elementary in Lancaster. On Saturday, May 10 Grace Church is having our second annual Children’s…

“So they took Jesus”

So they took Jesus; and carrying the cross by himself, he went out to what is called The Place of the Skull, which in Hebrew* is called Golgotha. There they crucified him, and with him two others, one on either side, with Jesus between them. Pilate also had an inscription written and put on the cross. It read, ‘Jesus of Nazareth,* the King of the Jews.’   — John 19:16b-19 (NRSV) Join us at 12:15 as we retrace Jesus trek to…

The Last Supper This Evening

We’re all familiar with the famous painting entitled ‘The Last Supper’ by Leonardo da Vinci.  In it, we see Jesus sharing the Passover meal with his disciples.  On Maundy Thursday, we remember Jesus introducing us to communion.  But there is much more going on this night.  After the meal, Jesus will go out to pray, he will be betrayed, he will be taken into custody, denied, tried, and condemned.  Join us this evening at 7:00PM as we gather to worship…

Website update

Well, folks.  After several weeks of work behind the scenes, we’re unveiling the new look website and blog.  The old site was difficult to maintain, the new one is much easier to manage going forward.  I hope you’ll take the opportunity to look around.  All the old content is still here, but the look and feel is newer and fresher and, I think, easier to use.  Let me know what you think.  There is a comment feature built into the…

April Pastor’s Piece/Peace

Jesus and his disciples were among a million people preparing to travel to Jerusalem for the Passover Feast. It was a three day walking journey from Galilee to the city on Mt. Zion. Some disciples went ahead to prepare for camping out along the way. The journey ventured through the hills and forest as well as into the desert. Today we prepare for a spiritual journey that we call Lent, Palm Sunday and Easter. Yes, we need to buy our…
