Souper Bowl of Giving Results
Thank you to everyone who contributed to our 2018 Souper Bowl of Giving food collection this year. We had 455 items dropped in the shopping cart and another 33 lbs of food given online this year. We can’t forget, however, that hunger is a problem in Fairfield County all year long. While this is a great start to the year, Jesus calls on us to feed the hungry and clothe the naked all the time. Souper Bowl of Caring 2018
As Jack mentioned during the announcements this morning, it is again time for the Souper Bowl of Caring for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me Matthew 25:35 (NRSV) The quote from Matthew is central to several of our core values, namely, love and welcoming community. This year, for the 18th consecutive year, we are participating in the Souper Bowl of Caring to benefit…
Hurricane Harvey Response
Folks have been asking how we can help those in Texas who have been devastated by Hurricane Harvey. At this point in time, what is needed most is money, but soon there will also be a need for cleanup buckets. This page describes how the UCC at the national level is responding. If you wish to give money, you can give directly through this link, or write a check and on the memo line write “Hurricane Harvey” and we will…

Time to re-enroll in Kroger Community Rewards
It is that time of year again. The time when we need to re-enroll our Kroger Plus cards in the Community rewards program. The Kroger Community Rewards program is a way to raise money simply by using your Kroger Plus card when you buy groceries. 100% of the money the church receives through this program goes back out to help those in need in our community. In the past, the Christian Service board has given the money to Maywood Mission…
Speaking Christian – book study
For the next 3 Sundays, Tammy Townsend will be leading a study of the book Speaking Christian by Marcus Borg. We will be discussing Easter, the Death of Jesus, & other topics as well. We will be meeting at 9:30 in the parlor room for those weeks. There should still be a few copies available in the narthex.
Spring Forward
If you don’t want to be that person who pulls into the parking lot as everyone else is leaving church Sunday morning, remember to set your clock ahead one hour before you go to bed on Saturday evening.
Lenten request
On 1 March, we begin Lent. According to Wikipedia, “The purpose of Lent is the preparation of the believer through prayer, doing penance, repentance of sins, almsgiving, atonement, and self-denial.” I’d like to suggest that for this Lent, we, as members of Grace United Church of Christ, take some time during this season of Lent to pray and to listen for that still small voice of the still speaking God, and what God is calling us to do and be…
