Discernment as Covenant Community
Note: this was originally written by our Association Minister, Rev. Dr. Janine Wilson on Sunday, 8 Nov after she worshiped with us and was present for the meeting after church. It first appeared in the Central Southeast Ohio Association blog, but we wanted to be sure it was shared with our congregation, too. Grace United Church of Christ Lancaster, Ohio When it comes to the picture, my cell phone sells it short, but when it comes to caring for one…
Guest Preacher (and Dress Warmly)
Folks, just a reminder that Pastor Mindy is on vacation this Sunday. Our guest preacher will be Nicole Pickens. She has worshiped with us in the past, she is a seminary student at the Methodist Theological School of Ohio in Delaware and is a member-in-discernment for ordination with the Central Southeast Ohio Association. Please come out and welcome Nicole to worship. Also, a note, the work on switching over the church building from electric to natural gas heat is underway,…
New hosting
You probably noticed that we haven’t posted much here lately. We were having performance issues with our old hosting provider. Last evening we moved to a new hosting provider and performance should be better, so we’ll be posting more often (and get the backlog of sermons posted). We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
89th Chicken Noodle Dinner
Every year since about 1926, Grace UCC has been serving up delicious homemade noodles, chicken, cole slaw, mashed potatoes, and desserts on the (usually) first Saturday in November. This year is no exception. Folks have been busy making noodles, pickin’ chicken, making cole slaw, and baking cakes, so come out this Saturday (yes, a few short days from now) and join us for fun, fellowship, and to raise some funds (I believe that Women’s Guild gives most of this to…

We need your pictures
As many of you are already aware, Grace United Church of Christ will celebrate its 200th birthday in October 2016, and we’ll be kicking off a year long celebration of this milestone this fall. As part of the celebration, the 200th Anniversary Committee is looking for pictures showing people and events from the life of Grace Church over the years. If you have pictures you would be willing to share, place them in and envelope (with your name inside) and…
CSEOA Prayer Calendar
I’ve been remiss in not posting the prayer calendar for the last few weeks, so let me catch up. The Central Southeast Ohio Association Calendar of Prayer for the week of 19 July lifted up Mt Carmel United Church of Christ in Clearport. Please keep the members and friends of Mt Carmel UCC in you prayers. For the week of 26 July, the Calendar of Prayer lifted up North Congregational United Church of Christ in Columbus. Please keep the members and…
It Is Time
by Jim Clausing A few weeks ago, the United States Supreme Court ruled that same-sex couples were entitled to equal protection under the law which made same-sex marriage legal everywhere in the United States. This decision has been hailed by some and met with anger and dismay by others, both of those reactions have been seen in our midst. The question now is, as Christians, followers of Christ, how is God calling us to respond to that, especially in light…
Pictures and Thoughts from General Synod 30
As many of you are aware and as Pastor Mindy discussed in her sermon this morning. Pastor Mindy and I were privileged to be delegates from the Ohio Conference to General Synod 30 in Cleveland two weeks ago. The resolutions that were proposed can be found at http://synod.uccpages.org/resolutions/index.html (I don’t see the final versions as voted on posted yet, but they will be there at some point). The ones that made the news were primarily the ones related to Israel…
