Summer is the time of year when churches seem to go on vacation just like everyone else. Other than Vacation Bible School, maybe a work trip, and sending a few of the youth to camp, things usually slow down dramatically. The Membership Action Board has scheduled the Summer Pot Luck for after church on Pentecost (8 June), to kick off the summer, but as far as I’m aware, that’s it. We’re going to try an experiment here. In the comments here on the blog or over on our Facebook page (or if you want to send e-mail to the office or one of the boards, see our contacts page), we’ll take suggestions for any activities that members and friends may want to do this summer and try to share that with the rest of the congregation to see if there are others who are around who might be interested in joining in. It could be something weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, or a one-off thing. Is anyone interested in a book/Bible study? How about taking in a Clippers/Indians/Reds game? Do any of the college kids who are home for the summer want to get together for pizza? How about movie night (either at the theater or at the church — we’ll get the appropriate license if there is sufficient interest)? Does anyone want to help Ron Harvey take care of the Memorial Garden? Is there any particular evening of the Lancaster Festival that several members/friends might want to attend together? How about a picnic or potluck? I’m sure there are other ideas, but I leave it to our readers to take the lead, we’ll just try to provide a means of communicating it. As I said, this is an experiment, if it fails miserably, so be it, but it certainly won’t work if we don’t try. Note, if you’ve never commented on the blog before, it may take a little while before your comment is visible, since comments are moderated for first timers to limit comment spam, but I’ll try to keep up. Also, I’ll try to share ideas from here on Facebook and vice versa. Consider this our bulletin board awaiting your post-it notes or index cards.
