The Season of Lent Begins

The Season of Lent Begins

The Season of Lent Begins Ash Wednesday, February 13 with Service at 7:00 PM.  Weekly Thursday Evening Sessions will be held at 7:00 PM.
The Season of Lent is a great opportunity for Christians and the Church. It is a time to check in upon our faith individually and collectively. Known as a season of sacrifice – giving up something that is a regular appreciated part of our lives – more so, lent is to grow spiritually and prepare for a resurrection within our lives.
This lent, at Grace Church, I am planning the Sunday worship time to be centered around the temptation of Christ and the temptations of our living. The theme is Temptation Does Not Mess Around.  Beginning with Jesus’ time in the wilderness we will join Jesus on the Journey from Galilee to Jerusalem.
Beginning Thursday, February 21, 7PM we will venture into the theme Embracing an Emerging Christian Faith  (Or the Church’s Next Rummage Sale).  These sessions will be based on the research and discussions led by Phyllis Tickle in her books, Embracing Emergence Christianity or the Church’s Next Rummage Sale, and Emergence Christianity: What It Is, Where It Is Going, and Why It Matters.
I believe lent will be an essential part of guiding Grace Church into the future.  To do so we will need a good turnout at both Ash Wednesday and the Thursday evenings together.
Session Titles:
Thursday, February 21, Embracing Emergence 101
Thursday, February 28, Where Now is the Authority?
Thursday, March 7, The 20th Century and Emergence
Thursday, March 14, Gifts from Other Times
Thursday, March 21, How Then Shall We Live?
Maundy Thursday, March 28, Hallmarks of Emergence
I hope you will join me in fellowship hall for the Thursday Lenten Sessions.

Note: a signup sheet was passed around after worship this morning to get an idea of how many might attend the Thursday sessions.  If you weren’t able to make it due to weather, the sheet will be available next week.  Please feel free to come even if you didn’t sign up though.
