Discernment as Covenant Community

Discernment as Covenant Community

Note: this was originally written by our Association Minister, Rev. Dr. Janine Wilson on Sunday, 8 Nov after she worshiped with us and was present for the meeting after church.  It first appeared in the Central Southeast Ohio Association blog, but we wanted to be sure it was shared with our congregation, too.

When it comes to the picture, my cell phone sells it short, but when it comes to caring for one another, the commitment and courage at Grace UCC was remarkable this morning.  Today marked the beginning of fresh dialogue regarding  a decision they made a decade ago.  The Supreme Court’s recent decision on LGBT equality is part of what inspired Lancaster to reopen their own conversation.  Today’s dialogue was only the beginning and a good one at that.  The youth and adults were caring and respectful – and the time was marked throughout by courage and kindness.  Discernment is rarely easy, but with the prayer, theological reflection and open conversation shared today, I trust they will continue to grow in their love of God and for one another.  Only time will tell the outcomes they will pursue;  Grace UCC Lancaster, we want you to know — our prayers are with you all…and to God be all glory.  (Rev. Dr. Janine Wilson)
